First 'Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker' Clip Shows Flying Stormtroopers
Director J.J. Abrams also confirmed the film’s final run time.
With the premiere of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker less than a month away, Disney has shared the first official clip from the highly-anticipated film.
Set in a planet similar to the sand dunes of Tatooine, the 30-second clip expands on a chase scene briefly featured in the film’s previous trailers and sees Rey, Poe, Finn, C-3PO, BB-8 and Chewbacca attempting to escape a few stormtroopers. As the chase continues down a seemingly endless desert, one stormtrooper from each speeder bike gets ejected to the sky and remains in flight with the use of jet packs. The stormtroopers’ new ability catches the group by surprise, slightly worrying C-3PO, Finn and Poe.
In addition to the release of this new clip, J.J. Abrams also shared the final run time for Episode IX during his appearance on EWLive on SiriusXM. The director shut down reports of the original 155-minute run time and confirmed that the film will clock in at approximately two hours and 21 minutes — 14 minutes shorter than expected. If this run time holds up, Rian Johnson‘s The Last Jedi will continue to be the longest Star Wars movie, followed by The Rise of Skywalker at 141 minutes and The Force Awakens at 135.
