After 24 Years, Someone Finally Achieved 100% Completion of 'Doom II'
‘Doom II’s last remaining secret has been unlocked without the use of cheat codes.
After 24 years, someone finally discovered the last remaining secret in Doom II, earning the first 100% completion of the game without using cheat codes.
Doom series co-creator John Romero took to Twitter on Friday announcing YouTuber Zero Master uncovered how to unlock the last of the Industrial Zone’s ten secret areas. Fans have long known where it is, but nobody has been able to activate it without using cheats, so no one has ever been able to claim a 100-percent completion of the game. Until now.
As Romero states in his tweet below, “A secret teleporter is marked as a discoverable ‘secret,’ but when you touch it, you never enter the sector. So you would never get inside the teleporter sector to trigger the secret. The only way to trigger this secret is to be pushed by an enemy into it!” To see the steps it took, skip to the 1:50 mark in the video above.
To take a quote from Mashable’s Adam Rosenberg, “Congrats, Zero Master. And congrats to Romero as well for not having to hang onto that secret any longer.”
Secret explained: A secret teleporter is marked as a discoverable “secret”, but when you touch it, you never enter the sector. So you would never get inside the teleporter sector to trigger the secret. The only way to trigger this secret is to be pushed by an enemy into it! #doom
