Desiigner Doesn't Consider Himself a Rapper or His Music as Hip-Hop
“None of my dudes I chill with are rappers. I don’t put us as rappers.”

As part of Tidal’s new “DNA” video series, Desiigner talked to the music streaming platform about his passion for melodies and singing. The “Tiimmy Turner” artist also says that he does not consider himself as a “rapper,” further adding himself onto the list of artists to distance themselves from from the Rap/Hip-Hop label.
“None of my dudes I chill with are rappers. I don’t put us as rappers. We’re all artists,” Desiigner says in the video for TIDAL’s DNA series. “In the G.O.O.D. Music camp, we all come around and we show ourselves and present ourselves as artists only.”
The 19-year old rapper also added that it’s a “blessing” to be apart of the G.O.O.D. Music movement and be around the likes of Pusha T, Big Sean, Teyana Taylor, and others on the imprint. He also told host Angie Martinez he doesn’t consider his music hip-hop:
“I don’t necessarily call my music Hip Hop, I just call it Fetty Wap. I’m a melody person. … I make melodies and add flavor to it.”
