Frank Ocean Is No Longer on Def Jam
The hottest independent agent in music.

As Pitchfork notes, Frank Ocean is no longer with Def Jam Records. According to one of Pitchfork’s sources, Frank Ocean’s pre-Blonde visual album Endless “fulfilled” his contractual obligations to Def Jam and Universal. Reportedly, Blonde was an independent, self-released offering. Pitchfork’s Marc Hogan clarifies:
While the credits at the end of Endless name Def Jam, the metadata on Blonde simply credits “Boys Don’t Cry,” which is also the title of Ocean’s new magazine.
While there’s been no official, public statement from either party involved, this pretty much solidifies Frank Ocean’s status as the biggest independent artist in music. Most recently, we learned of Frank Ocean’s favorite movies and songs.
