Inside Zaha Hadid Architects' KAPSARC in Saudi Arabia
Mesmerizing views of the research center in the desert.
After completing construction late last year, Zaha Hadid Architects‘ unveils a breathtaking video with an in-depth look at the firm’s King Abdullah Petroleum Studies & Research Centre (KAPSARC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Featuring sweeping views of the entire 70,000-square-meter complex from the exterior, the visuals also capture nearly every angle and detail inside the research center. The unique “hexagonal prismatic honeycomb structures” seen throughout the construction utilize less material and mimics crystalline surfaces that stand out against the desert backdrop. The structure is also oriented for optimal wind and sun conditions and was awarded a LEED Platinum Certification through its active and passive solutions — a first for ZHA.
KAPSARC was also recently selected as a contender for the upcoming World Architecture Festival taking place in Amsterdam. Shot by German photographer Hans Georg Esch, watch the 7-minute footage of the research facility above.
Zaha Hadid Architects also opened up its extravagant Morpheus Hotel in Macau, which will include an installation from KAWS.
