Atari's Highly-Anticipated Console Will Release in Two Distinct Versions
A new pre-order date has now been set.
In what seems like ages ago now, Atari first shocked the gaming world back in June of last year with the announcement of Ataribox – its first console in over 20 years. Since then, updates have been few and far between, with its last brief coming at the tail end of 2017 — disclosing that its original December 14 pre-order date had been pushed back.
And now, almost a year removed from first getting the good news, it looks as though pre-orders are good to go as of May 30, and will be offered through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. Atari’s VCS console, which it is now being called, will hit the public in two distinct versions. The “time-limited” Collector’s Edition will highlight wood-style paneling, while its Onyx Edition counterpart comes in tonal black.
Atari recently announced that it has tasked AMD to create the console’s processor and will boast such qualities as 4K resolution, 60fps gameplay, internal/external storage, built-in WiFi, USB 3 and Bluetooth 5 capabilities. As far as games are concerned, the system will come armed with Atari Vault and a slew of retro titles, including Asteroids, Centipede and Missile Command.
Immediately following its crowdfunding campaign, the Atari VCS will begin shipping in spring of next year.
