To some it may be surprising that “Drill,” the raw genre of trap which originated in Southside Chicago would make it all the way to the UK. Despite the distance across the pond, it happens to be a budding scene Londoners are taking in with crews like 67 on the rise. The collective features rappers ASAP, LD, Dimzy, Monkey, SJ and Liquez who mix UK slang into political verses laid over hard-hitting beats. In a recent collaboration with Beats Pill from Beats by Dre, the group held a multi-media exhibit showcasing their photography, installation and music. We sat down to ask them about their come up, being mislabelled and what the deal is with the masks they’ve been seen wearing. Check out the interview in full below as well as photos from the show above and more about the Beats Pill here

When did you guys get into Drill?
2012.

You’ve labelled yourselves as a family, is the family growing with the success?
Yeah because you build bonds as time goes on but everyone still always knows their role in the fam.

How did the Giggs collaboration happen?
He was showing love on the socials and his son wanted something to pop off so we all made it work…now there’s let’s lurk.

And the latest collaboration with Beats?
They liked what we was doing and we like them so when they reached out things just clicked quick, you get me?

How do you feel when you’re labelled as grime artists?
We laugh at it..we know and the real listeners know what we spit ain’t grime…it’s to raw and crud to be grime.

LD, can you explain the mask?
The mask is a long story…just know that the Feds shut down my bro Scribz from rapping so I just used to rap his bars but I didn’t want to be bait so I used to hide my face till I wore a mask to my SBTV warm up session but had to cut it so I could be heard..now it’s an iconic ting.

What’s your favourite brand of tracksuit?
Or da sportswear and everyday ting, it’s a Nike ting but we like us a nice Roberto Cavalli or Versace even Hugo Boss 1 offs.

Plans for the future?
Establish da 67 brand even more in the game cause we been doing up Europe. It’s time to do up the States and Africa…do other things than music you get me?
