'Aquaman' Tops U.S. Box Office Raking in Over $70 Million
Arthur Curry’s first featured film gives the DCEU a big boost.
Following up on its success overseas garnering over $350 million USD, Aquaman continued to make a big splash on its opening weekend in the U.S. The latest installment of the DCEU is on track to earn between $70-75 million USD, claiming the number one spot at the box office and beating out Transformers‘ spinoff Bumblebee, which is estimated to earn just $22 million USD–a new low for the franchise. The James Wan-directed movie surpassed its budget of $200 million USD ahead of its U.S. debut, and has now amassed $32.7 million USD to date ($4.25 million USD from IMAX) including sales from earlier sneak previews. Opening in over 4,000 theaters in North America, Aquaman is billed to hold the top position throughout the Christmas holiday.
Featuring Jason Momoa as titular character, the action movie also stars Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, Djimon Hounsou and Willem Dafoe. Catch the film in theaters now and watch the extended trailer above.
