Hypetrak’s Weekly Set – Volume 38

Welcome to Hypetrak’s latest Weekly Set. Last week saw a range of noteworthy – overdue and unexpected – releases. First and foremost, Dr. Dre is officially back in the game. With his Snoop Dogg and Akon-assisted ode to “Kush” the good doc initiated the promotional campaign for the much delayed Detox. By signing with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation-imprint, Jay Electronica made a career choice that left Diddy unhappy, but one that is embraced by Hip Hop heads around the globe. His new joint “Shiny Suit Theory” featuring his new label head, The-Dream and French chanteuse Charlotte Gainsbourg, indicates that there are bigger things to come from the New Orleans-MC. According to the man himself, there is a 7-minute version of the cut. It is always a special occasion when you find Dre and Eminem on the same track. Thus, our readers enjoyed in their latest collaboration “I Need A Doctor” although there is no official word on it. After a steamy entertaining visual, electronic funkateers Chromeo joined forced with the British band LA Roux in order to create a compelling refix of their latest single “Hot Mess”. A favorite among our reader, Canadian beatsmith Deamau5 unveiled his new energizing song “Get In The Cart, Pig” which heats up the anticipation surrounding his next LP.
Further favorites encompass Talib Kweli’s reflective “Cold Rain”, Lil’ Wayne’s homecoming verse on the remix for “Fire Flame”, a superb Prodigy-remix of Jay-Z’s “99 Problems”, Nicki Minaj’s female friendly “Girls Fall Like Dominoes” and the excellent Shlohmo-remix of Toro Y Moi’s “Fax Shadow”.
As far as music videos are concerned, the last week got these covered as well. And what a week it was. Just check for Lykke Li’s second video for her new “Get Some”, Raekwon’s letter to ODB “Ason Jones”, Gorillaz’ Daley-assisted new jawn “Doncamatic (All Played Out)”, Travis Barker’s “Carry It”, Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep”, jj’s moving “You Know” , B.o.B.’s “Don’t Let Me Fall” and “Beastmode”, CyHi Da Prince’s sun-drenched “Living Wonderful”, Saigon’s “Strength”, Twin Sister’s “All Around We Go”, MED and Aloe Blacc’ hometown anthem “Where I’m From”, Diggy Simmon’s visualized “Shook Ones”-freestyle, Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs” directed by Spike Jonze, Klaxons’ skin-tight “Twin Flames” (NSWF) and Bruno Mars’ love-ridden “Grenade”.
