Kamasi Washington revisits his expansive June album Heaven and Earth for his latest visual. Specifically, the multi-talented, genre-bending virtuoso links up with executive producer Emily Rudge, director Jenn Nkiru and production company Iconoclast to provide an accompanying video for “Hub Tones.”

“It’s about recognizing these two sides of reality,” Kamasi Washington previously told Stereogum, breaking down the purpose behind Heaven and Earth. “It’s like the reality that I’m sitting in this chair. I’m talking to you because I can hear you and I can see you, and that’s why I’m here. But also, I’m here talking to you because I think I’m here talking to you. And I thought I was going to be in here talking to you. That’s why this is what it is.”

“In life, on a grander scheme, you have those two sides of reality — one inside, one outside,” Washington continued. “I think a lot of people feel like their inward experience is one that’s less valid than the outward one. It’s like your thoughts are your thoughts or whatever, but reality is reality. But in my opinion, I’ve always felt that what you think and what you believe is what is creating that reality. Once you understand that, “I have the power to make the world what I want it to be.” The album on some level is also about empowerment, coming to this realization that I am responsible for the world that I live in. I can make it what I want it to be. I don’t have to wait for someone to make it what I want to be.”

Back in July, Kamasi Washington also released an EP titled The Choice.
