New 'Pokémon GO' Update Revamps Gyms, Adds a New Multiplayer Raid Battle Feature
The new ‘Pokémon GO’ features will make you feel like a Gym Leader.

Niantic‘s biggest update for Pokémon GO is on its way, featuring a new Raid mechanic and a revamped Gym system complete with Gym Badges.
The biggest addition to the game is the new Raid Battle feature at Gyms that encourage users to work with other Trainers to defeat powerful Pokémon known as the Raid Boss. You and up to 20 other Trainers work together to defeat the Raid Boss; if you successfully defeat the Raid Boss within the five-minute time limit, you’ll have the chance to catch a powerful Pokémon to keep in your collection. You need a Raid Pass to participate, which can be earned per day visiting a Gym. Only one can be held at a time, but Premium Raid Passes are available in the in-game shop.
Gyms will no longer be based on Prestige and training. Six permanent slots will take its place that can be filled by the controlling team’s Pokémon.
Pokémon assigned to Gyms will function on a new motivation mechanic which sees the meter deplete over time and as they’re defeated in battle. If your Pokémon loses motivation, it will leave the Gym and return to its Trainer. Feed it berries to replenish the meter.
Lastly, interacting with Gyms net you Gym Badges, which can be leveled up by battling, giving Berries to the Pokémon in the Gym and spinning the Gym’s Photo Disc.
