Earlier today, Denzel Curry released the video for his Imperial song, “Goodnight,” which features close collaborators Nell and Twelve’Len. Directed by David Wept, the visual showcases a lot of bright, vibrant imagery but it contains dark undertones. The music video sheds light at the rough reality in Carol City, where Denzel is born and raised. It finds a young protagonist witnessing various happenings in his neighborhood — like police brutality, gang violence and more — and he ultimately gets killed, shown laying in an open casket. Nell reveals in a press release, “The song gave me a platform and the power to touch people. No matter what you go through in life there is always a way out, you just have to have hope.” Watch the music video above.

Denzel Curry is set to perform at Coachella for the first time on Friday, April 14.
