Vans Drops a Checkerboard Series for a Heritage Revamp
The classic print gets a revolutionary release in Taiwan.
The original Vans Checkerboard Slip-On is a skate culture classic that emerged in the ’70s. The iconic shoe was devised after founder Steve Van Doren saw kids draw checkerboard patterns on the white rubber soles, and henceforth, the simple but bold design has lived on throughout the decades.
This year, Vans is bringing the retro Checkerboard print to other signature models including the Old Skool, Sk8-Hi and Sixty-Seven. The grid-like print finds itself on the body of the uppers, accompanied by black paneling, white Vans stripes and crisp white cupsoles. The Vans Checkerboard series will launch on March 24 in Vans Taiwan locations and ABC-MART.
