Penelope Cruz Is Set to Play Donatella Versace in 'Versace: American Crime Story'
The Oscar winner gets a captivating role on the small screen.
Ryan Murphy’s new season of American Crime Story is starting to take shape and now Penelope Cruz has been chosen to play Donatella Versace. Versace: American Crime Story will be the show’s third season, following up the critically acclaimed The People v. O. J. Simpson series and the upcoming Katrina story. Hands of Stone actor Edgar Ramirez is also set to play famed fashion designer Gianni Versace with Darren Criss playing Andrew Cunanan.
The future season’s tale, of course, revolves around the death of Gianni Versace who was murdered by Andrew Cunanan. Cunanan committed suicide eight days after the violent crime. As for the role of Donatella Versace, it was earlier rumored that Lady Gaga would play Gianni’s sister, but now those rumors are dispelled with Murphy announcing Penelope Cruz playing the part.
Cruz’s resume includes Oscar-nominations for a few films and a win for her supporting role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. FX’s Versace: American Crime Story will contain 10 episodes and is slated to air sometime in 2018 with a Monica Lewinsky-centered series to follow afterward.
