John Ross Breaks NFL Combine 40-Yard Dash Record With 4.22 Seconds
Ross is signed to Nike, so adidas gets to keep its island.
Former University of Washington wide receiver John Ross broke Chris Johnson’s NFL Combine 40-year dash record today with a lightning fast time of 4.22 seconds, beating out CJ2K’s 2008 run by two-hundredths of a second. The 2016 AP Pac-12 Player of the Year said of his record-breaking run:
I’m just thankful beyond measure, blessed, and just really happy to be in this situation. Because two years ago, I was sitting on the couch for the whole season, torn ACL, and now to be in this position, I’m really thankful.
Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you see it, Ross won’t be receiving a private island for his effort as he opted to wear Nike — he later signed with the brand after his sprint. Nevertheless, his output at the Combine should help his stock in the draft, even though he’s scheduled for shoulder surgery later this month.
“I really can’t swim that well,” Ross said. “And I don’t have a boat, so, you know, I had to run in Nikes.”
