This Video Explains the Story Behind the 1978 'Star Wars Holiday Special'
And how it accidentally shaped the ‘Star Wars’ universe.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi has finally hit theaters, acting as the sequel to 2015’s The Force Awakens. And as the Christmas season is upon us, Christophe Haubursin and Mac Schneider of Vox created a video to explain how the ‘Star Wars Holiday Special,’ which was released back in 1978, has accidentally helped to shape the Star Wars universe that we know today.
The 98-minute Star Wars-themed variety show featured the original cast of the films, which aired on CBS with an estimated 13 million people tuning in. Director and creator George Lucas was convinced to approve the project so fans would remain interested in the franchise until The Empire Strikes Back’s 1980 release.
