NISSIN Investigates Noodle Eating Customs to Develop a Slurp-Cancelling Fork
Available for preorder.
Continuing its series of unique Cup Noodle campaigns, NISSIN recently took an in-depth look at noodle eating customs around the world. Noting the different viewpoints foreigners and native Japanese have regarding slurping, the instant noodle purveyor set out to create a solution to alleviate the divide with a slurp-cancelling fork dubbed the Otohiko. NISSIN’s new device links up to a smartphone app which detects slurping noises and produces a counter-noise that will cancel out the slurps.
NISSIN is set to produce 5,000 slurp-canceling forks — each priced at ¥14,800 JPY (approximately $130 USD) — but will only go into production if the company receives 5,000 preorders by December 15.
