Apple Explores the World's Most Engaging Sights via the "Shot on iPhone" Campaign
The iPhone 7’s low-light camera brings Earth to life.
For an ambitious and innovative promotional campaign, Apple once again broke free from industry orthodoxy by connecting a cadre of talented, artfully-minded photographers from around the world to document their own visions using the iPhone 7’s low-light camera. Arranged for a November 5, 2016 date, the “Shot on iPhone” world event featured everything from “Indonesian volcanoes” and Johannesburg clubs to “Arctic ice caves” and Taipei’s late-night life. The goal behind Apple’s global get-together of photographers was simple yet creative: document the most visually-striking parts of a unique part of the global community in the “dusk to dawn” spectrum. As of today, 25 countries will now be able to experience this one-of-kind experience.
As revealed through remarks from Ruairidh McGlynn, one of the individuals recruited for the endeavor, Apple managed to convey one visual artist’s interpretation of Iceland with just a handful of photographs. “Iceland is well known for its iconic landscapes,” explained McGlynn. “I wanted to produce a series of unexpected images that both pushed the boundaries of mobile photography and allowed people to reimagine Iceland — especially its possibilities at night.”
