Amazon's Physical Bookstore Is Coming to New York City This Spring
Even sooner than expected.
Back in late 2015, Amazon opened a brick and mortar bookstore in Seattle — the first of what’s expected to be 300 to 400 Amazon Books locations in all. Now we know for sure where at least one of those locations will be: right in the heart of Manhattan.
Amazon had confirmed in an email to The Wall Street Journal that it does indeed plan to open an Amazon Books location in New York City. The email thus confirms the rumors of a Big Apple location that were swirling around last year, but with one major difference: whereas rumors suggested it would hit the upcoming Hudson Yards development (which is on track for completion in the latter part of 2018), Amazon is instead set to open the store on the edge of Central Park at the Time Warner Center in Midtown — this spring, no less. Ultimately, the retail giant says that another location could indeed make its way to Hudson Yards, but the Central Park spot will be the first.
The store will join Amazon Books’ existing Seattle, Portland and San Diego locations — as well as upcoming Chicago and Massachusetts stores — when it opens its doors sometime in the months ahead.
