Makoto Shinkai's 'your name.' Hits ¥10 Billion JPY Mark in Less Than a Month

However, following the extremely successful release of Makoto Shinkai’s your name., there’s a glimmering hope that a potential successor to Miyazaki has been found. Shinkai’s blockbuster has already hit the ¥10 billion JPY (approximately $99 million USD) mark in 28 days since its initial release, making it the ninth-highest grossing Japanese film ever. The movie is also the only Japanese animation work to rack up ¥10 billion JPY in revenues apart from Miyazaki’s works. Now only time will tell whether your name. will eventually see a U.S. release.
