Haider Ackermann Named Creative Director of Berluti
“I don’t want to make men beautiful or handsome. I want to create attitude.”

Designer Haider Ackermann has been named the Creative Director of Berluti. The menswear label, which is a part of LVMH’s portfolio, was founded as an upscale men’s show brand in 1895. It was run by four generations of the Berluti family before it was acquired by LVMH in 1993. Ackermann also runs his own fashion line which includes both women’s and men’s lines, although the menswear counterpart was only founded in 2013. He is known for his edgy and romantic looks that have won over many fans such as Kanye West. Ackermann will continue to oversee his eponymous brand, which has not received any investment from LVMH.
Of the appointment, Ackermann simply said, “Everyone was expecting me to do women’s wear, so I wanted to do something else. I have another story to tell.” He continued on to say, “[It's] like having a new lover. Men’s is a very interesting world nowadays because the customer wants more of an individual identity. But he also wants timeless, so you are always balancing on that line. I don’t want to make men beautiful or handsome,” he said. “I want to create attitude.” His first show will debut in January 2017 for men’s fashion week.
