Redemption.

It was only two short years ago when Germany thrashed host country Brazil 7-1 at the 2014 World Cup semifinals, in which Germany went on to take the title. The surprising upset left fans and players in tears while Neymar Jr. was out due to injury. This time, the Barcelona striker got revenge as he scored the winning penalty in front of 78,000 spectators at the Maracana, Brazil. The gold medal match finished 1-1 after extra added time. In the shootout, Germany’s Nils Petersen had his penalty saved by Weverton before Neymar won it. Neymar’s winning strike lifted Brazil to beat Germany 5-4 on penalties in Rio to win their first men’s Olympic football gold medal. Brazil have lost in the finals three times prior in 1984, 1988 and 2012. Germany recently lost in the semi-finals of the 2016 UEFA EURO CUP.
