Natalie Portman Makes Her Directorial Debut With "A Tale of Love and Darkness"
An adaptation from Israeli author Amoz Oz’s novel.
Everyone’s celebrity crush, Natalie Portman, has announced her most ambitious project to date by way of this recently released trailer for her directorial debut, titled A Tale of Love and Darkness. The plot of the movie stems from Israeli author Amos Oz’s novel of the same name, which tells the story of Oz’s own childhood experience during the end of the British Mandate for Palestine — which ended around 1948 — and the founding of the Jewish state of Israel.
Portman’s adaptation also brings her in front of the camera where she portrays a powerfully caring yet equally distraught mother to Oz. While the original book has already made its success with over a million copies sold, we’re hoping the same for Portman. Check out the film when it releases nation wide on August 19.
