San Diego’s Josh Oldenburg ruminates on his craft and passion.
As part of its The Craftsman Guild showcase of artisans pursuing their passion, California label SLVDR highlights San Diego-based custom surfboard maker Josh Oldenburg. Inspired largely by boards from the past, Oldenburg builds all of his boards by hand from scratch, from shaping the wood at the start to painting and glasswork in the final stages. Realizing his vision in full has won him a steady clientele, and nearly 100 percent of his business is from custom referrals. In the video above, Oldenburg recounts his thoughts on his trade, making for an interesting insight into the mind of someone pursuing their life’s purpose.
