BABYMETAL Performs "Gimme Chocolate" on 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert'
The highly popular Japanese “kawaii” metal band makes its U.S. debut.
While Stephen Colbert himself was a little confused by his musical guest on April 6 (“I’m not sure what I’m about to see… but I’m pretty excited about it!”), U.S. audiences and fans alike got their first taste of Japanese metal band BABYMETAL. Comprised of three teenage girls and a metal band ensemble as backup, the group performed their hit single “Gimme Chocolate” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Utilizing heavy metal guitar riffs and punishing drums, the band got its start in 2010 and has garnered a cult following not only in Japan but globally, fusing cute Japanese “idol” culture and relatable lyrics with loud, aggressive thrash metal.
