Takashi Murakami Curates an Exhibition of Japanese Ceramics
Combining a respect for traditional forms with a modern sense of imagination and experimentation.
Superflat artist Takashi Murakami has put together an exhibition of contemporary Japanese ceramics for New York’s Blum & Poe gallery. The exhibition features the work of ceramicists Kazunori Hamana, Yuji Ueda and Otani Workshop, whose pottery methods synthesize a respect for the art’s traditional lineage with a keen sense of experimentation and imagination. The vessels range from crackling, cracked vases with no perceivable use to anthropomorphic forms.
The exhibition opens at Blum & Poe on March 3 and runs until April 9.
