Vans Introduces the Park Terrain World Championship Series
With the championships held in Malmö, Sweden.
Vans has announced the formation of its first World Championships for park terrain skateboarding, as well as introducing the Vans Pro Skate Park Series. The championship will have a total prize of at least 4500,000 USD, while including both male and female competitions. Qualifiers will be held over five months and across four continents, attracting only the highest ranked skaters. The top five highest ranked skaters to emerge from the PS Global Qualifier system will challenge the top 15 pre-seeded exclusive PS Park Series elite pros for the title of park terrain World Champion in Malmö, Sweden on August 20.
As one of the most compelling and fasted growing disciplines in competitive skateboarding today, the Vans PS Park Series is defined by transitional concrete closed courses from five to nine feet in depth and being distinguished by having any number of features such as spines, angled hips, extensions, escalators, set-back walls, elevation changes, gaps and transfers, variable grinding surfaces, etc. A specially built PS Park Series World Champsionship skatepark in Malmö will be the first in the world built to legacy construction and is being donated by Vans to the city. “Our goal in establishing the Vans PS Park Series is to further define and elevate the discipline of park terrain skateboarding while providing the preeminent globally recognized path-to-pro platform for Men and Women.” – Justin Regan, Vans Skateboarding.
