Never-Before-Seen Photos of Kate Moss' First Modeling Shoot Surface
14-year-old Kate’s first official modeling shoot, from the summer of ‘88.

As one of the most recognisable faces in the world, Kate Moss has had her photographs plastered across global fashion campaigns and billboards since her humble career beginnings in England. Discovered at JFK airport at the tender age of 14 in 1988 by Storm Model Management founder Sarah Doukas, Kate was just a brand new recruit when she was connected photographer Owen Scarbiena that very summer.
‘I didn’t think she would make it [in the business],” recalls Scarbiena to VICE; “I didn’t think she would make it because she didn’t fit into that obvious beauty. She’s not six feet tall. She had her own quirky gorgeousness, which isn’t taken up by the masses. Kate didn’t have any preconceived ideas of how a model should stand. She was just her, which I loved… It was very slightly awkward, but natural.”
Dressed in a youthful ensemble of a white Oxford shirt, plain black tank, sports shorts and denim, Kate comes across as fresh-faced as any young girl should be. The series of old photographs above are considered her first-ever shoot as a model that Scarbiena recently found in an old drawer. This was the only time Scarbiena ever shot Kate.
