Legendary Skate Photographer Skin Phillips Looks Back on His Career in This Short Film
From Swansea to SoCal.
As part of adidas Skateboarding’s celebration of three decades of skate photography, the brand paid homage to iconic skate photographer Skin Phillips in a retrospective short film within the Respect Your Roots series. A native of the coastal Welsh town of Swansea, Phillips began his journey at the age of 14 when he became involved in surf photography, which naturally segued into skate photography. The more of a fixture he became in the small Swansea skate scene, the more Phillips looked towards making it big in the homeland of skateboarding in Southern California, where he would ultimately move and find fortune in becoming the editor-in-chief of TransWorld SKATEboarding, and later the team manager for adidas Skateboarding.
Recently honored with his own signature skateboarding sneaker at an exhibition of his works at KNOWN Gallery in Los Angeles, take a look back at the career of his era-defining individual in the video above.
