Action Bronson Chows Down on Jamaican Food at the First Annual Nyamjam Food & Music Festival
Calabaza slaw, pimento-smoked chicken sandwiches and passionfruit buttered chocolate cake.
Hip-hop’s resident bon vivant Action Bronson will soon be making a splash on TV screens with Viceland’s F*ck, That’s Delicious, but the Queens native’s hustle is far from finished — his latest adventure takes him all the way to Oracabessa, Jamaica for the first annual Nyamjam Food & Music Festival. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Goldeneye Resort, the fest features some refreshing takes on Caribbean cuisine, while the man known as Mr. Wonderful provides instantly quotable commentary.
Bam-Bam is truly living his best life in this video. Once a potent marijuana macaroon kicks in, the Rap Game Anthony Bourdain throws himself at a smorgasbord of Jamaican staples: like a calabaza coleslaw made with a scotch bonnet vinaigrette and finished with parmesan cheese, a succulent jerk pork, or a pimento-smoked chicken sandwich so good that Action finds himself asking for seven more. Due to a law that prohibits the sale of pimento wood, the chicken is cooked over crushed pimento leaf briquettes — effectively smoking the meat in allspice. He finishes this meal with a dab of passionfruit butter on a piece of the darkest chocolate cake you’ll ever see, before retiring to float lazily down a crystal clear river.
Once back in the cold and gray confines of New York, Action makes a beeline for Jamaica, Queens to re-up on cow’s feet stew and fried plantains — the mark of a truly memorable vacation. For more on Bronsoliño’s music, you can revisit his POV GoPro performance for Boiler Room, and remember to tune into F*ck, That’s Delicious, premiering March 3 on Viceland.
