Mr. Transforms Galerie Perrotin's Seoul Outpost Into a War-Plagued Manga World
“Moe” meets madness.
Takashi Murakami protege Mr. is currently displaying his latest installation in Galerie Perrotin’s Seoul gallery. The Neo-pop artist filled the space with cheeky anime artwork depicting young girls that juxtaposes a backdrop of post-war Japan. Dubbed “Tokyo, The City I Know, At Dusk: It’s Like a Hollow in My Heart,” the exhibition heavily draws on the “natural and man-made” calamities that have struck the Land of the Rising Sun in recent years, as per designboom. Moreover, Mr. seeks to expose the gilded quality of “moe”—an extreme obsession of manga characters—amidst a world mired in seemingly endless controversy, disaster and violence.
