Frank Lampard Announces MLS Exit, Is Steven Gerrard Next?
America may not have been the retirement tour they expected.

Earlier today, Frank Lampard took to Instagram to announce he’s leaving NYCFC and the MLS altogether. The 38-year-old joined the club back in 2014 after 13 years with Chelsea, where he left as the all-time leading goalscorer and arguably the best midfielder of his generation. Lampard’s time in New York has been full of up-and-downs, from spending significant time playing for NYCFC’s sister club Manchester City, to nagging injuries. However, the English footballer hit a stride this year, eventually becoming the scoring threat he once was with 12 goals in 16 games, while serving as a mentor for the rising Jack Harrison.
Lampard’s Three Lions teammate, Steven Gerrard, may be on his way out of the MLS as well. Similarly, Gerrard took to Instagram yesterday to say goodbye to Los Angeles, but his message is a bit more cryptic, as he doesn’t mention the Galaxy or the MLS, and has yet to make an official announcement now that his contract has expired. The 36-year-old, Liverpool great does not have the same story of highs-and-lows as his midfielder comrade, but instead it’s been a consistent stream of mediocracy, tallying just three goals and nine assists in 18 appearances this season. Gerrard has also expressed interest in coaching.
