This Smartwatch Is Powered via Body Heat
The PowerWatch never needs to be charged.
Even the Apple Watch‘s most loyal fans have at least one major gripe about the design: its battery. With just 18 hours of battery life, the Apple Watch needs to be charged each and every night and is the perfect illustration of the smartwatch industry’s current shortcomings. However, the Bay Area’s Matrix Industries is looking to right the smartwatch ship with its own timepiece — one that infinitely one-ups the battery life of its competitors.
Dubbed the PowerWatch, Matrix’s timepiece has a simple tagline: “Powered by you.” And that’s because the PowerWatch eschews more traditional battery options in favor of thermoelectrics. The result is a smartwatch that doesn’t need to be recharged each and every day. In fact, it never needs to be charged at all. Instead, the watch draws its power from your very own body heat, actually drawing more power the more you exercise and displaying its power reserve prominently on the display as an added motivational tool. And when you remove the PowerWatch, it automatically puts itself to sleep after backing up your relevant data to the cloud.
