James Jean Set to Present a Large Scale Mural in Portland
A hand-painted original artwork by the internationally-renowned artist.

Guerrilla Development announced recently that a custom design by Los Angeles-based artist James Jean will bedeck the exterior of the Fair-Haired Dumbbell, a six-story office building with ground-floor retail in Portland’s Industrial Eastside. The building consists of two towers connected at each floor by sky bridges. The stunning artwork will be hand-painted on all eight façades as well as the entire roof by local Portland artist Dan Cohen, with oversight from Jean, who is known for his virtuosic ability to work across different genres with an imaginative and multifaceted approach to image making. Fusing contemporary subjects with aesthetic techniques inspired by traditional Chinese scroll painting, Japanese woodblock prints and Renaissance portraiture, the artist depicts detailed cosmological worlds that focus on both individual and universal experiences. Construction began this past August and will soon serve as the canvas for Jean’s latest work.
