At first glance, Valentino‘s latest menswear collection seemed to be everywhere. There was the sleek and chic, but then came the leather, studs, then tribal, tassels… and ponchos? Well, there were 80 looks after all. But what’s the unifying theme here? According to designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, this collection is inspired by groups. “It’s starting from the idea of existentialism,” says Piccioli. “As coming out from a safe situation and rethinking the new, a sense of being a man in the world. Existentialism was born between the two World Wars and it became more strong after the Second World War, after dignity was destroyed. You have to find your own individuality, your own way to express yourself.”

So you get a bit of everything, which can be a good thing. All the pieces were intricate and beautiful, and the collection as a whole included something for everyone. Turtlenecks and long coats for those who like something more simple, or bright and eye-catching prints for those who can rock something a bit louder. Take your pick.
