TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist. 2016 Fall/Winter Collection
Musical inspiration marks a practical, functional range.
Throughout his time at the now defunct Number (N)ine, Takahiro Miyashita gravitated toward musical inspirations. The same remains true at his eponymous label — just check out last summer’s “Kurdt” sunglasses for proof — as the designer presents TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist.’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection. Aptly following the brand’s Spring/Summer 2016 drop, the new range boasts youthful cues throughout, taking inspiration from the drawings of a 6-year-old (no joke) as it features pieces named for everyone from John Lennon and George Harrison to Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain. F-hole-shaped pockets and instrument chin rest-like straps appear, as do treble clef-shaped lapels, tattered cardigans, denim and nylon. Somehow, however, the looks manage to avoid looking too contrived as practicality and functionality — thanks to the likes of reinforced seats and Primaloft fabric — are emphasized throughout.
