Kendrick Lamar Salutes Compton With New Grammys Short Film
“We gonna be alright.”
Kendrick Lamar is the man of the hour, with 11 Grammy nominations under his belt and recently wrapping up a slew of collaborations that include a sneaker release with Reebok and a track with Kanye West. With the music award show coming up next month, the rapper has released a short film paying homage to his hometown of Compton. The clip starts with an a cappella rendition of Kendrick’s hit song, “Alright,” performed as solos by a diverse group of Compton residents and spliced together to create one cohesive performance. As the video progresses, a minimalistic backing track of snare and saxophone accompanies the vocals. Near the conclusion of the video, Kendrick himself makes an appearance as a large audience joins him for the song’s unmistakable chorus. You can check out the full performance above, and don’t forget to find out how many awards Kendrick wins when the 58th Grammy Awards airs on February 15.
