Gucci 2016 Fall/Winter Collection
Taking vintage to a whole new level.
Hot off receiving the British Fashion Council’s International Award, Alessandro Michele is back in at Gucci with its latest menswear collection. Having been at the helm for just a year now, Michele has essentially rewritten all we’ve know about the brand under Frida Giannini. Gone are the sleek and sexy styles that originated with Tom Ford’s Gucci era. In comes thoughtful, historical and admittedly more kitschy looking designs. But that isn’t a bad thing.
Michele admits himself that he admires philosophers, but he also appreciates the nuances between low and highbrow culture. Brocade suits in green, lurex sweaters, snakeskin prints, adorned with crystals, pearls, and more. Gawky, but also “a little Schiaparelli,” says Michele. Gucci now transcends boundaries of time, of gender, and while whole outfits definitely aren’t wearable, they can be appreciated.
