Chris Rock Reportedly Rewrote His Academy Awards Script in the Wake of #OscarsSoWhite
“The Academy is ready for him to do that. They know that’s what we need.”

Comedian Chris Rock has reportedly been hurriedly rewriting his Academy Awards monologue in the wake of the #OscarsSoWhite protests. With African American stars such as Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett-Smith withdrawing their support from this year’s ceremony, thanks to its exclusively white cast of top nominees, Rock has been forced to rethink his approach to hosting duties. “You should expect #OscarsSoWhite jokes,” explained producer of this year’s show, Reginald Hudlin. “And, yes, the Academy is ready for him to do that. They’re excited about him doing that. They know that’s what we need. They know that’s what the public wants, and we deliver what the people want” added Hudlin, speaking to Entertainment Tonight. Rock’s publicist however was keen to distance her client from the claims, saying “Chris has made no decisions about the content of the show. All will be revealed on February 28th. We will not comment further on this.”
