Capcom Is Remaking 'Resident Evil 2'
Survival-horror fans rejoice.

After posting a number of teasers to their Facebook page over the past few weeks, Capcom took to YouTube yesterday to officially confirm the dreams of survival-horror fans: the Japanese developer and publishing company is remaking Resident Evil 2. “You’ve been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade and we haven’t been able to make it happen… until now,” said Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabyashi. Unlike Resident Evil 0, the game promises to be a full-on remake, not just a high-definition remaster. Originally released for the PlayStation back in 1998, RE2 is set in Raccoon City two weeks after the events of the first Resident Evil installment and saw the introduction of Leon S. Kennedy alongside Claire Redfield. Praised at the time of its initial release for its atmosphere, setting, graphics, and audio by critics and everyday gamers alike, Resident Evil 2 has long been considered one of the greatest games of all time and a harbinger of the survival-horror games to come.
According to Hirabyashi, “It will be some time before we can bring you an update on this project,” so stay tuned.
