Pete Rock first released his critically acclaimed Petestrumentals album in 2001. Primarily an instrumental album, Petestrumentals and the album’s influence is still carried on till today, as the instrumental beat scene has flourished with producers no longer needing to cater to MC’s but who are now able to make compositions and arrangements that stand on their own. Fast forward to 2015, Pete Rock remains one of Hip Hop’s greatest successes, and is proud to release Petestrumentals 2 which is out today via Mello Music Group.
A 20-song instrumental opus, Petestrumentals 2 continues forward where the first album left off. Armed with Pete’s hand-selected records, Pete Rock meticulously chops up and loops like only he can, further showcasing why he’s been such an influence to a generation of younger producers. Pete Rock also pays homage to the late J. Dilla (“Dilla Bounce (R.I.P),” in a gorgeous requiem where the originator pays tribute to the prodigy.
In celebration of the release of Petestrumentals 2 enjoy the full album stream. For folks in the NYC area, the official NYC release party will take place tomorrow Weds, June 24 at Brooklyn Bowl.
