Did Disclosure Rip Off SBTRKT's Imagery?

While fans of Disclosure were probably beyond happy when the popular UK act officially announced their new album Caracal, SBTRKT and his art director A Hidden Place weren’t too pleased with the unveiling of the project’s cover-art. In a string of tweets, both SBTRKT and A Hidden Place called out Disclosure for what they saw as a sort of creative theft. In particular, SBTRKT and his art director believe the cover images of Disclosure’s first and second albums resemble the artwork of SBTRKT’s first two albums far, far too closely. A Hidden Place tweeted several shots Disclosure’s way in response, tweeting that Disclosure “used to think they were really cute wanting to be like Sbtrkt. But whats up w/ going from face to mythical creature,” and accused them of “quick cut and paste of artistic ideas.” Responding to blogger Disco Naivete’s tweets about SBTRKT using the theme showcased on Disclosure’s cover-art before they did, SBTRKT tweeted out, “‘anonymous cat’ common album theme. ;/” and followed that remark with a tweet that stated simply, “wildcopycats.”
