Vintage cars often have a certain beauty about them that cannot be put into words — there is something about the way the lines intersect and the precise curvature of the bonnet that evoke a sentimental reaction. One such car is the Mercedes-Benz 280 SL “Pagoda.” First produced in 1963, the 280 SL as found a lifelong fan in owner and architect Daniel Monti, whose 1969 model provides daily inspiration for his craft. In this video, Petrolicious went on a drive with Monti as he talked through the structural points of the car, most famous for pioneering a more upright, angular shape, as well as a roof that slopes towards the middle, evoking comparisons to Oriental architecture, hence the car’s nickname.
