Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist and To Pimp a Butterfly collaborator, Robert Glasper has a new project coming out next month called Covered with his group, The Robert Glasper Trio. Together, with Vincente Archer on bass and Damion Reed on the drums, the trio covered a carefully selected compilation of songs from artists like Kendrick Lamar, John Legend and The Roots. The project is all live sessions recorded at Capitol Records in Hollywood during December of last year and today they premiered their take on Jhene Aiko‘s “Worst.”
“It’s one of those songs that completely took over the airwaves for a whole year. Most songs like that are annoying, but this song is dope. It lends itself to interpretation because it’s so melodic and has a great mood about it!”
Check the video of the live recording above. Covered is due out on June 16 via Blue Note Records and is available on both iTunes and Amazon for pre-order.
