Uber Could Be Worth $50 Billion USD

Mobile app-based transportation service Uber could soon become the most valuable venture-backed startup in history, as it prepares for another funding round that could tip its valuation over the $50 billion USD mark. Up until now, only Facebook has been able to amass a $50 billion valuation before going public. Uber’s last fundraising effort began in December 2014 and closed at a $41 billion valuation; for comparison, publicly traded Salesforce.com – San Francisco’s largest tech employer – sports a market cap of about $47 billion. Another interesting comparison: after that funding round, Uber was worth about as much as two big names in the rental car space — Avis and Hertz — combined.
