Watch Kanye West Give His Honorary Doctorate Speech at SAIC
While accepting his honorary doctorate at School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Kanye West
While accepting his honorary doctorate at School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Kanye West delivered an unusually succinct speech, filled with both satirical remarks and genuine reflections. Clad in a traditional cap and gown, the creative visionary shows a rare sign of humility, admitting his nervousness with a tremor in his voice as he receives the coveted distinction from one of the most esteem art schools in the U.S.
Adding to a co-sign by Sir Paul McCartney, and his New York Times and Time Magazine covers, the newly appointed Dr. West vows to use his new accolade to brighten the future for the world, metaphorically comparing the doctorate as a certification similar to an athlete’s championship title. Also, the Chicago-native once again encourages the public to not be afraid in speaking out their true opinions. Kanye joins creatives such as Jeff Koons, Pattis Smith and Theaste Gates in receiving this honor. Check out the speech above and listen to his previous lecture at SAIC here.
