Audio identification app Shazam has always been an intriguing and innovative platform. It’s hard to think that at one time, if we heard a song in public we didn’t know, that we were burdened to ponder the track forever. Well, not only has Shazam conquered this issue, the app is claiming another ability. Yesterday, the VP of the product Cait O’ Riordan announced that, with relative accuracy, Shazam can predict what song will go to number one on the Billboard charts 33 days in advance. According to O’Riordan, this is made possible due to data collected by 100 million users who use Shazam 20 million times a day. This much information allows the service to forecast trends before a track has yet to become a major hit, a capability unrivaled by any like-minded service. This is a fairly impressive feat that proves Shazam is at the epicenter of digital progress.
