SAOTA and Studio Parkington Create a Cliffside Cape Town Home With Stunning Views

If you’re going to build a strikingly minimalist mansion with stunning views of the ocean and all that lies beyond, what better backdrop to have than Cape Town’s imposingly majestic Table Mountain? Or so that was the logic when architectural firm SAOTA built this sculptural property, located on a mountain ridge above Bantry Bay and below Lion’s Head, with views of Robben Island to the north and Camps Bay and the Twelve Apostles to the south. Taking consideration of the steep site, the main living areas, pool terrace and garden are built on the lower levels, whereas family bedrooms are situated on the upper levels for privacy. The different levels are connected by a glass lift, with timber-clad stairs wrapping themselves around, leading visitors from the naturally-lit garage at mid-level one to the kitchen at the heart of the home. With maximal openings for natural light, the architecture creates continuity between the indoors and outdoors, with the beautiful interiors designed by Studio Parkington. Enjoy the photos above.
