Piloting members of the ska and rock steady music genres Rolando Alphonso of the Skatalites and Gladstone Anderson, also know by his nickname “Gladdy,” have played an influential part in the collaborative project between streetwear label Stussy and Japanese dub reggae band Mute Beat. Designed to commemorate the vinyl release of their ’80s live recordings, the Mute Beat x Stussy collaboration offers two T-shirt options — one bearing the slogan “R. Alphonso meets Mute Beat” along the back detail with a black and white photographic print across the chest, while the other bears the words “Gladdy meets Mute Beat” on the front. The collection is a tribute to the pioneering spirit of each one of its collaborative members and honours their contribution to a vast music expanse from acid jazz and trip hop to their role in developing Jamaica’s musical history.
Stussy’s Mute Beat collaboration is now available at Stussy’s Japanese chapters and web store with each tee retailing for ¥6,000 JPY (approximately $50 USD).
