Reentering the mobile payment wars against Apple’s Apple Pay service, Google‘s Android Pay looks to redefine the now-defunct Google Wallet initiative in order to position itself as a legitimate source for mobile payments. Allowing retailer merchants to accept credit card payments through the mobile app, Android Pay can be used at retail brick-and-mortar stores where the app will be integrated into the store’s customer loyalty program, providing retailers with trend data and other measures. Plans for Android Pay include a peer-to-peer payment app, which allows users to send money directly to each other from their debit accounts. As Google and Apple continue to develop the ultimate mobile payment platform, competition for dominance in the growing market does not seem to slow down as Facebook, PayPal and Samsung announce development plans of their own.
